Mapping and gathering information of Kampung
Ms. Liza Marzaman, a young architect, worked with the Kampung Buloa fishing community in Makassar to map their settlement in response to new master plan by Tallo District, to develop long term upgrading plans in collaboration with the local university and ARKOM.

1. Background
The 6 kampungs: Buloa, Cambayya, Kalukubodoa, Mangngarabombang, Sengkabatu, and Tallo are located on the coastal area, including port area, and stilt houses on the shoreline. The 5 of kampungs are located on the sea shore, and 1 located on the river bank area.

2. Objective

3. Process
  • Visiting 6 kampungs using the connection of people in KPRM (already established community driven movement group in Makassar).
  • Mapping the characteristics and the major issues with the 6 coastal communities. The major physical issues of 6 kampungs are land title and clean water supply. Another noted issue is about the social groups.
  • Invited the residents to the habitat day commemoration and took some advantage to promote the kampungs with posters and stories to the local municipalities through the event. It was the first meeting of all the member of the six communities in one forum.
  • Through the mapping workshop, the 6 community are visualizing their kampung problems and potentials, as well as their hopes. For the first time, they can get together and not feel marginalized anymore by the local municipality.
4. Next Action Plan
We would like to coordinate the six kampongs into one organization where they can meet, discuss, and realizing a plan together. Maybe, we can manage to have them to form saving groups for a better impact and empowering the women also. For that, we need a better coordination with local practitioners like arkom networks, KPRM, and etc.
